WHAT SALEM OFFERS
Ever since the earliest days of Christianity, fellowship has been a hallmark of the Christian church. "Love one another as I have loved you," is the command of Christ (John 15:12), and the apostle Paul taught, "Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep" (Romans 12:15). With this in mind, sharing the strength of Christian fellowship is part of the stated mission of Salem United Church of Christ.
To help us know one another better, love one another more, all so we can be of mutual support one to the other, we have a number of activities in place, and we hope to have everyone feel welcome to participate. Some of these activities take place on a regular basis, while others are periodic. If you have interest in any, please contact the church office for more information. Someone will be glad to help connect you with the right activity or group for you.
A partial list of our interest groups:
- The Biking Fellowship organizes seasonal bike rides
- The Book Club meets monthly to discuss a current book
- The Couples Group meets monthly in someone's home and shares a potluck meal
- The Meal Swappers meet monthly at the church and prepare meals which are then divided and shared
- The Men's Fellowship meets monthly
- The Quilting Group meets monthly
- The Women's Guild meets monthly (except July, August, January, and February), hosts special events, and sponsors various mission projects in the church and around the world
- Women's Mini Retreats meet every other month in someone's home around a topic of interest
- View our Music and Youth pages on this website to learn more about our many music and youth groups.
If you see the need for an interest group that is missing from this list, and you would like to help organize and bring it into being, contact the church office and we will help you get started! We are always open to more ways in which we can live out our mission as God's people in this place.
Special events include:
- Baby showers for the first babies of members
- Bridal showers
- Easter Breakfast following our Easter Sunrise Service
- Occasional potluck suppers or brunches
- The Women's Guild's annual Holiday Bazaar (first Saturday in December) and Salad Luncheon (first Thursday in May)
And, every week following worship, someone from the congregation hosts a fellowship time in our Fellowship Hall. This simple gathering around coffee, punch, cookies, fruit, and other treats gives folks a chance to be together in conversation. If you plan to visit us for worship, plan to stay for a time of fellowship.
