Lenten Studies in the Titles Given to Jesus in the Book of Hebrews. Lent historically has been a time of seeking spiritual renewal through fresh devotion. The biblical pathway to spiritual renewal begins and ends with Jesus. We are revitalized in our faith when we concentrate afresh on him.
We turn to the Book of Hebrews for help with coming to a new and renewing vision of Jesus today. Hebrews was written to a church that was not as strong as it used to be and which feared its best days were over. The writer’s purpose is to spur the church to renewal and strength by pointing ever again to the excellence of Jesus.
Our Lenten focus for our evening services – which will be at 7:15 PM – employs Hebrews with the same purpose in mind. Our project is to look to some of the various titles assigned to Jesus in the Book of Hebrews, all of which tell of his unsurpassable excellence. The titles used of old can give us a deeper and fresher insight today into what can stir the imagination, spark interest, and renew spirits
